Driveway Designs: Before and After Pics

A good driveway design can change your whole house.

There are many, many reasons to take your driveway and improve it through driveway designs. Driveway designs increase curb appeal, raise the resale value of your home, help prevent damage to other parts of the house, and offer a much more attractive space to live in.

But where to start, and where to get ideas? Here are a few examples of driveway designs, before and after.

Clean Lines

If you have an asphalt driveway, there’s something to be said for a simpler, more precise driveway design. Beyond removing the old concrete, which has a tendency to crumble and stain in the first place, repaving your driveway using a clean, simple design means that your home will have a better look and you’ll be able to give the grass around it a crisper, cleaner look. Even if you’re not looking for a complicated driveway design, or are just concerned that it may look out of place on your home, some simple paving and stone work can do wonders.

Bricks

Brick driveways are a classic look, of course, and bricks have been used to pave public and private spaces for centuries. Changing your driveway from a standard asphalt look to a brick driveway design changes how people will view your home right off the bat, and offers a unique look that can make any house stand out.

Paving Stones

Similar to brick, paving stones give you a variety of patterns and ideas to consider in your driveway design. For example, you can add a touch of Old World to your home by simply allowing the stones to be fit together at random, only one of the many unique design ideas you can choose from.

Pattern-Imprinted Concrete

Sitting between using bricks or pavers and simply laying out a basic concrete driveway is laying down the concrete and giving it a pattern. Concrete takes to patterns particularly well and can serve as a useful tool for laying out a driveway design using more available materials and saving on labor. Just remember that concrete can be prone to wear and stains, so be sure that you’re willing to put the money into maintenance.

Adding Color and Patterns to a Driveway

There are multiple ways to incorporate color into your driveway design. For example, it’s possible to create a driveway that’s “resin-bonded”; essentially, a layer of resin is laid into the sub-base and an aggregate, such as gravel, is scattered over it. The gravel embeds in the resin, which hardens and offers the tint, allowing you to match the color of your driveway to certain colors in your home. Or you could choose bricks or paving stones in a wide variety of colors. There are many places to work color and patterns into your driveway design; contact a paving company to discuss your options.

  1. I’m looking or more of the red rounded “I” shaped paver bricks that you have pictured on your website. Is it possible to get some of those ordered and shipped to me?

    Thanks.
